A museum hangs a small photograph in a large field of board, because empty space is what tells your eye the thing is worth looking at. We cut to the same idea. The mat overlaps each edge of the print so it stays flat without tape, and the photograph stops reading as a snapshot and starts reading as an object.

About these frames
Solid wood picture frames, made to order
Every Acrehand frame is made around one photograph rather than bought off a shelf and filled later. Choose a size and a wood, send the picture, and it arrives printed, matted behind 2 mm acid-free board and fitted — ready to stand on a table or hang on a wall.
The moulding is solid black walnut or solid teak, finished in clear lacquer, with an acrylic front rather than glass so it survives the journey and a fall from a shelf. The pine backing board sits on ball-spring catches, which means you can lift it out and change the photograph yourself years from now, without tools and without us.
Frames are prepared in 2–6 business days and arrive within 8–12 days. Shipping is free on orders over $50 in Canada, the United States and the rest of the world.
